Syllabus
Grading Scale: A: 100 – 92 B: 91 – 85 C: 84 – 75 D: 74 – 60 F: 59 and below
How Grades will be Calculated:
Honor Code Policy: **Cheating of any nature will not be tolerated.** It is expected that all work you complete in class is a product of your own effort. I define cheating as the giving or receiving, in any form, information relating to any graded material including homework assignments, projects, and exams. Violations of the honor code will result in a zero for the assignment, project or exam; parent contact-teacher disciplinary action; referral to principal-administrative action which may result in detention or suspension.
Classroom Rules:
1. Respect yourself, your peers, your teachers, and your surroundings.
2. Come prepared for class every day and on time.
3. Act with integrity.
4. Quietness is expected when a teacher or another student is talking.
5. Be prepared to learn and participate in class.
Consequences: The following procedures will be followed when dealing with discipline issues; unless otherwise stated in this syllabus and/or Student Handbook. More severe discipline issues may result in direct Administrative Referral.
1st Occurrence: Verbal Reprimand
2nd Occurrence: Parent contact-teacher disciplinary action
3rd Occurrence: Parent conference – teacher disciplinary action
4th Occurrence: Administrative Referral
Late Work Policy: All work is due at the beginning of class on the date it is due. Excused absences will be allowed to turn in work as per school policy. For all unexcused absences, students will receive a grade of “zero” for all work graded on the unexcused day, including homework, quizzes, tests, labs, etc., as per school policy.
Test/Quiz Days: As preparation for tests/quizzes I will assign review problems to be worked on in class two days before the test/quiz is due. The day before the test/quiz I will conduct a whole-class review. If you are absent the day before the test/quiz you will still be required to take the test/quiz. Missing the review does not constitute not taking the test. You will be notified a week in advance that a test is approaching and have plenty of time to prepare for it.
Food/Drink Policy: No food, candy or drink items will be permitted in class. (Unless you have a valid medical reason) If you bring such items to class you will be asked to throw it away. If the problem continues then the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
Returning from an absence: As per the student handbook, “All excuses must be signed by a parent/guardian and be submitted to the main office within (3) days of returning to school. If such an excuse is not provided and within the allotted timeframe, the absence(s) will be considered unexcused. Unexcused absences receive no credit. Students will not be given an opportunity to make up tests, quizzes, homework, etc. for days missed that are unexcused.
Tests will be announced well in advance of the date it is given. Therefore, an absence the day before a test does not excuse you from that test unless you are involved in special circumstances to be determined by the teacher.
It is YOUR responsibility to find out what you have missed when you are absent.
Tardiness: Tardiness means you are not completely in the classroom by the first sound of the bell. If you are tardy the following consequences will be administered.
1st occurrence: receive a verbal reprimand
2nd occurrence: receive a verbal reprimand
3rd and subsequent occurrences: receive a detention
Leaving the classroom: All efforts should be made to remain in the classroom throughout the entire period. Please be sure that you use the Restroom before or after the class. Also, please make sure that you come prepared for class. I consider each and every student a very important part of the class. It is important that you are here to share your thoughts, ask questions, and contribute to the class all period long.
If you need to leave the classroom:
1) You must ask my permission. If I allow you to leave the classroom YOU need to fill out one of the three spaces on your hall pass before I sign it.
2) Once I sign your hall pass you must also fill out the classroom sign-out sheet located on the bookcase by the door with the date, your name, time out, time in, room #, and destination.
3) If you have used up all 3 spaces of your hall pass the excusal from class will be treated as a late to class and will count towards detention.
Electronic Devices: Cell phones, MP3 Players, I-Pods, hand-held video games or other electronic devices are not to be brought to school or be found in a classroom. If one of these devices is seen it will be confiscated and consequences will be implemented according to the student handbook. It is best that you just don’t bring these items to school. If you do, keep it in your locker.
Other School Policies: All other school policies, including but not limited to the phone and electronics policy, the dress code, and the tardy policy will be strictly adhered to in this class. Please refer to your student handbook if you have any questions.
